Ruth Airhart, MA, LPC-AT/S, ATR-BC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Supervisor and Board Certified Art Therapist  living and working in Austin, Texas.  For the past 14 years I have offered  art therapy to individuals, families, and groups, serving people of all ages in a broad range of settings (from non-profit mental health agencies to hospitals, treatment centers, shelters, homes and schools).  To learn more about my professional credentials and work history, view my resume.

I create a safe and confidential place for clients to share their thoughts, feelings, and needs using both traditional talk therapy and a variety of expressive therapy techniques such as art, sand tray, journaling, creative writing, and play therapy.  In general, I structure therapy sessions to include three components:  1) feelings check-in 2) expressive art activity and 3) verbal processing.  Sessions typically are 50-90 minutes long.

I tailor the therapy experience to each individual I encounter.  For example, some of my clients create art in every session while others prefer doing verbal therapy alone.  Some choose to bring in their own artwork or project ideas while others prefer me to lead art projects that address their specific treatment goals.  I encourage all my clients to trust  and honor what they need in therapy.
